Prophet Muhammad, صلى الله عليه و سلم, once said about his first wife Khadīja(ra) that, “Verily, I was filled with love for her.”
Muhammad, صلى الله عليه و سلم, married Khadīja(ra), fifteen years his senior, and lived with her for twenty five years until she died. She was the one wife whom he never had co-wives with, and she was the mother of his daughters.
Once the Prophet(صلى الله عليه و سلم) mentioned Khadīja(ra) near ‘A’isha(ra) and she responded: “She was not but a such and such of an old lady, and Allah replaced her with a better one for you.” He replied: “Indeed Allah did not grant me better than her; she accepted me when people rejected me, she believed in me when people doubted me, she shared her wealth with me when people deprived me, and Allah granted me children only through her.”
‘A’isha(ra) says, after this incident, “I learnt to keep quiet, whenever Khadīja’s name was mentioned by Muhammad”. In another Hadith, ‘A’isha(ra) added: “I annoyed Prophet one day and said, ‘It is Khadīja only who always prevails upon your mind’. Thereupon, Muhammad said, ‘Allah Himself had nurtured Her love in my heart’.”
Angel Jibrīl(as) came to the house of Rasulullah(صلى الله عليه و سلم) and Khadīja (ra) was there. Jibrīl said: “Allah sends his salām to Khadīja.” The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم)said: ”O Khadīja, Allah is sending His salāms to you.” She said, “Allah is As-Salām(The Source of Peace) And upon you O Jibrīl , be as-salām and upon you Rasulullah be as-salām.” (Bukhari)
Who gets salāms sent from Allah and Angel Jibrīl, subhanAllah. May Allah shower her in His blessings and mercy. Islam has placed women on such a high pedestal of respect and honor that no manmade entity can ever come close to reaching it. Alhamdulillah.
